Comment, au siècle dernier, la croissance de Paris a-t-elle été pensée ? Quelles ont été les orientations successivement données au développement spatial de la capitale ? De quels modèles s’est-on soutenu dans cette opération qui a d’abord été envisagée en termes d’extension, puis de planification, enfin d’aménagement ? La façon dont la politique urbaine a été conduite en région parisienne entre 1919 – date des premiers projets –, et 1969 – quand prend fin la mission de Paul Delouvrier –, a fait l’objet de nombreux commentaires. En sociologie et après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, elle a été principalement située dans la perspective d’un « marxisme urbain ». Elle est aujourd’hui réexaminée dans le cadre de recherches qui font une plus large place aux acteurs concernés.

How was the growth of Paris thought out during the last century ? What have been the orientations successively given to the spatial development of the capital ? Which models have been used to underpin this operation that was first considered in terms of expansion, then in terms of planning, and finally in terms of urban planning ? The way in which urban policy has been carried out in the Paris region between 1919 – when the first projects were set up – and 1969 – when Paul Delouvrier’s mission came to an end –, has been the topic of many commentaries. In sociology, after the Second World War, it was mainly considered in a « urban marxism » perspective. Today it is re-examined in works that focus more on the actors involved.
