Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The anarchist terrorism draws its intellectual roots from a breeding ground constituted by the philosophy of the Enlightenment of the XVIIIth century, theories of the German revolutionaries and of the doctrine of the Russian nihilists of the middle of the XIXth century. In 1870, the Russian nihilist Michel Bakounine, the worthy representative of this threefold influence, conceptualized the direct action by associating it with the terror and by applying it directly in Lyon. This is when the French anarchists, strongly inspired by Bakounine, gave birth to the propaganda of the deed in 1877. If the definition of propaganda of the deed that gave the anarchist Paul Brousse was rather wide, because that going of the armed uprising to the violent demonstration, it is only from 1890’s, that it was almost exclusively associated with terrorist attacks. Indeed, the wave of attacks which knew France between 1892 and 1894 obliged the authorities to seize the question and to legislate. In front of the repression, the anarchists abandoned little by little the propaganda by the bomb for the benefit of a way that they had never neglected, the illegalism. |
