| Summary, etc. | Les linguistes ont du mal à se passer de la notion de « variété » même quand ils reconnaissent que les pratiques observées transgressent les frontières érigées dans leurs descriptions et donc dans leurs propres représentations ainsi que dans celles des locuteurs. On s’interroge ici sur les processus qui sont en jeu dans la création de « variétés » du français en Afrique. On remarque que cette réification permet à certains locuteurs de revendiquer la légitimation de leurs pratiques, comme dans le cas du camfranglais/francanglais parlé au Cameroun. |

| Summary, etc. | « Variety » is still frequently used in the literature even if linguists, nowadays, acknowledge that the practices do not respect the boundaries which are created in their descriptions and hence in their own representations as well as in those of the speakers. This paper questions the processes involved in the creation of “varieties” of French in Africa. Worth noting, this reification allows some speakers to claim the legitimacy of their practices, as in the case of camfanglais/francanglais spoken in Cameroon. |
