520			_aRésuméLa multitude des pertes qui caractérisent le vieillissement a construit une vision déficitaire du sujet âgé. Leur retentissement psychologique porte aussi bien sur le sujet lui-même que sur le système familial. La problématique de castration se rejoue. L’identité se redéfinit sur fond de deuils et de renoncements. L’institutionnalisation met en lumière ces pertes et leurs atteintes narcissiques mais peut également se révéler comme le lieu de nouveaux investissements relationnels, sociaux, culturels.

The psychological repercussions have an impact on both the individual themselves and the family system. The issue of impotence resurfaces and identity is redefined on the basis of mourning and renunciation. While institutionalization highlights these losses and narcissistic injuries, the institution may also prove to be the place for new investments in social and cultural activities and relationships.
