The farrier is the person skilled in the art, often the most experienced, in assessment and description of the balance of the horse’s limbs in general and those of its feet in particular. He will evaluate them according to three planes : frontal, median, horizontal. In the horizontal plane, he will appreciate the toed-out and the toed-in conformations, which are states of horizontal direction visible in particular with the help of the direction of the line tangent to the glomes. In the sagittal plane, he will evaluate the toe angles and the conformations in interphalangeal extension or in interphalangeal flexion. In the frontal plane, he will evaluate the verticality of the median plane of the foot and will distinguish the feet askew on the outside or inside.

Le maréchal-ferrant est l’homme de l’art, souvent le plus expérimenté, pour analyser et décrire les aplombs des membres du cheval en général et ceux de ses pieds en particulier. Il les évaluera selon trois plans : frontal, médian, horizontal. Dans le plan horizontal, il appréciera les panardises et les cagnosités, qui sont des états de direction horizontale visibles, notamment grâce à la direction de la ligne tangente aux glomes. Dans le plan sagittal, il appréciera les angles de pince et les conformations en extension ou en flexion interphalangienne. Dans le plan frontal, il appréciera la verticalité du plan médian du pied et distinguera les pieds de travers en dehors ou en dedans.
