The fear of breakdown. A clinical example - 2018.

69

This article describes a treatment with a female patient whose unconscious fear of breakdown was increasingly undermining her capacity to function. The defensive false-self that the patient had organised to cope with an early trauma was in the process of cracking up and giving way to anxieties and psychosomatic disorders. The analytic work consisted of helping the patient to experience, in stages, the pain and terror of her first breakdown.
