<br/><br/> In this article, the process of providing psychoanalytic treatment to an autistic child is compared to constructing a bridge from the world of fusional illusion and one-dimensionality to the acceptance of separation and the experience of being with someone else. This bridge progressively brings together a contour-object, a container-object, and an emotional-object with a third party who maintains separateness while promoting bonding and attachment. But bonding work is above all about forging the link between two people, both a space and an emotional experience of sharing and depth of feeling.
