Electronic Rumors: Synergy between Technology and Archaism - 2002.

70

The rumours that are currently being spread on the Internet (which will be referred to as “e-rumours” ) are growing faster and faster every day as they are going from one user to the next. Our main concern deals with the peculiar novelty of this phenomena: how are those e-rumours actually differing from the ones which are expressed orally? We consider that the way those e-rumours are being transmitted differ fundamentally from the way “traditional” rumours are disseminated. However, e-rumours would generally keep the same thematic subjects and basic structures as the traditional ones. Accordingly, it is possible, via this new technology, to detect the presence of certains archaisms among what is being referred to as common sense, as well as on the most modern forms of cyber-communication.
