Fifteen years as a consultant specializing in victimology at Guillaume Regnier Hospital Center in Rennes
- 2016.
78
In 1998, within the framework of its new development project, the Guillaume Regnier Hospital in Rennes decided to create a cross-sectoral consultation service specializing in psychotraumatology/victimology. Based on fifteen years of this service’s existence, this article aims to describe the conditions under which this consultation service was created and developed, and how it currently functions; to report a number of clinical observations, such as the nature of the violent events and the contexts behind requests for assistance, the conditions and principal characteristics of these requests, and the importance of the phenomena of denial and trauma. Secondly, it describes the need that has been progressively felt to design a new theoretical-clinical tool capable of dealing with the singularities of the victimological problematics observed, taking a psychodynamic and adaptive approach to them. Finally, we discuss the value of including specialized public psychiatric consultations within the current remit of victimological care, and the contribution this type of intersectoral healthcare can make compared to that offered by traditional non-hospital caregivers.
