N1 - 37 N2 - As the French population is aging, the number of older people on the road is increasing. For many older adults, this everyday activity is an important way of maintaining their independence. Calling this right into question on the sole basis of age can be seen as stigmatizing. However, this population is particularly vulnerable on the road. While much attention is given to behavioral factors among young adult drivers, driving errors seem to be more frequent among older people. Driving is a succession of complex tasks that can be affected by aging and the presence of pathologies (cognitive decline, sensory deficiencies, or cardiovascular conditions that have not stabilized, etc.). As these medical conditions increase with age, it is important that health-care professionals identify high-risk cases. When necessary, health-care professionals should assist patients to stop driving and find alternatives. Maintaining older adults’ mobility and ensuring their safety on the road is a challenging social issue. In this article, we discuss the issues related to keeping older adults on the road. We also discuss appropriate ways to help patients to stop driving when necessary UR - https://shs.cairn.info/journal-geriatrie-et-psychologie-neuropsychiatrie-du-vieillissement-2024-1-page-18?lang=en ER -
