Evolution of Forms of Farming - 2017.

6

The process of globalization questions the future of farms in mountainous areas—which tend to be less competitive—and the transformations of forms of farming. Are the “defamilialization” of agricultural activities and the “disagriculturalization” of households generalized in mountainous areas, and can we infer certain specific features in relation to these zones? The authors question these dynamics in light of the agriculture census, and analyze the individual data by crossing different types of agricultural households, their activities and production orientations. They present the evolutions in mountainous areas over twenty years. They also compare them with those of Metropolitan France to discuss the transformations and specificities with regard to mountainous areas.
