Work in institutions takes place at the crossroads of three worlds: society, the family, and the institution. These three worlds also have different representations of problems and demands, and of the solutions that are sought or expected. In this context, some steps prior to starting an actual clinical intervention are indispensable. We develop these steps and show how they help lead to a goal and a given intervention, delimited by the institutional mandate, which takes center stage here and defines the framework within which any action can take place. Each institutional worker can then find their rightful place and fulfill their role in co-constructing an ongoing reflection within teams and a partnership between the three worlds.
