The French Navy and archaeology in Peru during the nineteenth century - 2017.

Many pre-Columbian artifacts from Peru can be found in French museums. Some of them were brought back by mariners, encouraged by their chain of command and by scientific institutions. This noteworthy contribution can be attributed to the omnipresence of the French Navy along Peruvian coasts during the nineteenth century, which led to a strong relationship with French residents, as well as with local authorities and elites.
