Fondée pour la première fois en 1907 à Hanoi, l'Université indochinoise place définitivement la capitale de l'Indochine au cœur du système d'enseignement supérieur colonial. Dès le début du xxe siècle, les flux d'étudiants sont polarisés par Hanoi où sont créées de nouvelles écoles supérieures et professionnelles. Cet élan se poursuit tout au long de la période coloniale : les structures d'accueil se développent jusqu'en 1945 en favorisant d'abord les étudiants du Tonkin.

Founded for the first time in 1907 in Hanoi, the Indochinese University has definitely put the capital city of Indochina at the heart of the colonial higher education system. From the beginning of the 20th Century, flows of students have been polarized by Hanoi where new technical schools and colleges were created. This momentum will go on throughout the colonial period : accommodations have been developing until 1945, giving an advantage to students from Tonkin.
