Il faut se demander si le compte rendu d’analyse, parce qu’il a pour matière la version que l’analyste lui-même se donne de cette expérience à deux, n’apparaîtrait pas au patient mis en cause bien éloigné de ce qui a été sa version personnelle de la même chose. Mais aussi s’agit-il bien de la même chose ? L’homme aux Loups, L’Homme aux Rats, Schreber, Sidonie Scillag, l’Aimée de Lacan et bien d’autres encore, qui étaient ces hommes et ces femmes que nous sommes accoutumés à considérer et à évoquer comme de véritables modèles, voire des morceaux fossilisés de théorie ? Qu’est-ce que le regard « historique » et non plus seulement clinique nous apporte les concernant ou nous révèle vis-à-vis de la rencontre avec l’analyste qui leur a valu d’être couchés non seulement sur le divan mais sur le papier ? L’Histoire dans sa dimension anthropologique et sociale rencontre ici ces histoires qui se réécrivent ainsi indéfiniment : celles des patients grâce auxquels la psychanalyse a pu s’inscrire.

A Supplementary Piece of Knowledge ? This article examines to what extent the written account of an analytical cure, in that it sets down the analyst’s version of an experience initially shared by two people, may seem far removed for the patient from their own personal version of their cure. Are we indeed talking about the same thing ? For who were these men and women – the Wolf Man, Schreber, Sidonie Scillag, Lacan’s Aimée to name but a few – whom we consider and speak of as if they were models set in stone or fossilised fragments of theory ? What can a ‘historical’ viewpoint rather than a merely clinical approach tell us about them or their encounter with the analyst who not only listened to them but put their story down in writing ? History, in both its anthropological and social dimensions, interconnects here with personal histories and the unlimited interpretations spun from them – the personal histories of the patients thanks to whom psychoanalysis was transcribed into written words.
