On a souvent réduit Feuerbach à n’être qu’un auteur de transition entre Hegel et Marx, dont la pensée est résumée par le seul terme d’‘‘ humanisme ’’. Pourtant, la conception de l’homme que propose Feuerbach s’appuie sur une théorie élaborée de la représentation, portant à la fois sur sa genèse et sur ses effets. Concernant spécialement la sensation, la religion et la philosophie, cette théorie s’efforce de définir leur articulation et esquisse ainsi un matérialisme original.

Feuerbach has often been reduced to the status of a transition author, half-way between Hegel and Marx, and classified under the summary concept of « humanism ». His vision of humankind is in fact based on a complex theory of representation insisting both on its birth and its consequences. This theory shows the links between sensation, religion and philosophy and defines hereby an original concept of materialism.
