Dans cet article1, l’auteur interroge la responsabilité sociale et politique du chercheur à la lueur du concept d’engagement. À travers le récit de vie d’une recherche ethnographique en entreprise conté à la manière de confessions, il montre comment son engagement initial, de nature contractuelle et phénoménologique, a évolué progressivement vers un engagement politique. Au-delà du récit, l’auteur souligne le pouvoir transformateur d’une recherche en montrant que l’engagement au sens phénoménologique peut conduire à l’engagement politique.

From Candide to Zarathoustra. Researcher’s engagement and the transformative power of ethnographic research This article dwells upon the concept of « engagement » to question the researcher’s social and political responsibility. This confessional tale of an ethnographic research in a company shows how the researcher’s initial involvement, of a contractual and phenomenological nature, evolved over time to become a form of political engagement. More than a life story, this article highlights the transformative power of research, showing how involvement of a phenomenological nature can lead to political engagement.
