RésuméLa quête de transcendance qui préside aux aspirations transhumanistes s’opère sur le registre de la promesse mais toujours en lien avec la réalité des innovations technologiques. Elle repose donc sur un horizon d’attentes en tension entre un « déjà » qui est aussi un « pas encore » caractéristique des discours eschatologiques. La revendication de transcendance par les sciences et techniques nous permet d’analyser, d’un point de vue sociologique, les rapports qu’entretiennent sciences et religiosité au sein du transhumanisme. L’objectif de cet article est d’interroger la capacité que possède l’activité technoscientifique à produire des croyances afin d’analyser la nature du système de croyances dans lequel se déploie le transhumanisme.

Metaphysical aspirations and eschatological hopes among the transhumanistsThe quest for transcendence that governs transhumanist aspirations takes place on the level of the promise but is always linked to the reality of technological innovations. It is therefore grounded in a horizon of expectations in tension between an “already” that is also a “not yet” characteristic of eschatological discourse. Claims to transcendence made by the sciences and by technologies enable us to undertake a sociological analysis of the relationship between science and religiosity in transhumanism. The goal of this article is to explore the capacity of technoscientific activity to produce beliefs in order to analyse the nature of the belief system which provides a context for transhumanism.
