Is social work becoming a liberal profession in France? French law n. 2014-856 on the Social and Solidarity Economy (known as the “ess law”), the new mechanisms such as the Social Impact Contract, the changes driven by the serafin-ph reform: all these elements lead us to consider the question of the Taylorization and commodification of social work. In addition, the decrease in the wage bill, the reduction in operating budgets, and the new modes of management and evaluation methods mean that young professionals in the social sector are being pushed toward a liberal profession.
