Regulation and sectorial development in historical perspective: The Brazilian case

The Brazilian State has been very active in the sectors which need large sums of capital. Then it had to face the growing role of capital markets and the challenges of globalization. It answered these new problems by developing regulation agencies sector by sector in order to promote competition, growth, transparency, and efficiency. Three representative sectors have been chosen: energy, heavy industry, communication. Brazil today attempts to avoid corruption and to take care of environmental demands.
