Orality, taking in the psychological, biological and functional phenomena presaging development of the child’s oral behaviour, forms a central strand in speech therapy. Verbal orality in the young child is here described as being developed in conjunction with feeding orality. Early oral educational gnosopraxia in partnership with the parents concerns both feeding and verbal orality. Early forms of interaction, the value given to the behaviour patterns by those around, and the pattern of responses that result have an essential role and a preventive function with respect to orality disturbances.
