RésuméPourquoi s’engager pour une cause humanitaire ? L’analyse de l’engagement au sein d’une association de type confessionnel permet d’apporter des éclairages originaux sur la traditionnelle distinction entre salariat et bénévolat, en intégrant dans la problématique les dimensions de motivations et de trajectoires. À partir de l’analyse des rapports entre bénévoles et travailleurs sociaux, entre différences et similitudes, l’enjeu d’un « agir collectif » auprès des bénéficiaires révèle que l’action conduite par les bénévoles apparait complémentaire de l’approche individualisée du travailleur social.

The commitment’s analysis within a denominational association allows providing original insights on the traditional distinction between wage earner and volunteer by integrating to the issue the motivation and trajectory dimensions. From the analysis of the relations between social workers and volunteers, between differences and similarities, the issue of « collective acting » next to the beneficiaries shows that the volunteers’ action comes as complementary to the social worker’s individualized approach.
