La catégorie clinique des adolescents difficiles se définit par des comportements violents et transgressifs, par la notion de carence familiale et par le malaise engendré chez les professionnels. Elle sert à désigner une population marginale des institutions. Depuis la fin des années 1990, elle fait l’objet d’une activité éditoriale, du développement de réseaux professionnels, de formations académiques et d’élaborations de politiques publiques. Or, en procédant par une essentialisation méthodologique, les savoirs cliniques ne rendent pas visibles les rapports sociaux, les jugements moraux et les conditions politiques construisant cette marge.

Is precarity at the heart of suffering subjects ?The clinical category of difficult adolescents can be defined by violent and transgressive behaviour, by the notion of family deficiency and by the malaise brought out in clinic. It is used to designate a fringe population of the institutions. Since the end of the 1990s it has been the object of editorial activity, the development of professional networks, academic groupings and the elaboration of public policy. However, in methodically essentialising the movement forward clinical knowledge does not show the social relationships, moral judgements and political conditions building this fringe.
