This article discusses the relevance of Alf Lüdtke's works to analyze the limits of protest in the Cuban authoritarian context since the fall of the Berlin wall. It shows that Lüdtke's perspective is relevant because it allows us to describe and analyze both the acceptance and rejection of dominant norms and rules in a context, which is characterized by uncertainty. Lüdtke's approach therefore enables us to go beyond the domination/resistance dichotomy, to take the ambiguities and ambivalences of people's behaviors into account, and to understand to what extent they contribute to both questioning and maintaining the social and political order.
