Ecological approach to instrumented environments: understanding the phenomenon of socio-cultural affordance

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2020. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The ecological approach to affordance enables us to propose a framework for holistic analysis of the subject-artifact-environment interaction. The affordance concept is understood in its semiotic and socio-cultural dimension to study the conditions favoring the immediate perception of an artifact for action. This is to avoid reducing the affordance of an artifact to what is done with it, but instead to include conditions that make it possible to realize what it is (or not) possible to do with it, by integrating into the analysis what is likely to benefit or harm human development. Thus, the concept of affordance is understood as a mediator of the subject/environment relationship aiming at the transformation of its environment by the subject, incorporating constraints from the goal it pursues and those of an environment formed by a set of end purposes which go beyond the subject’s intentions.
