The mother, who satisfies hunger and protects, is relieved of her task by the father who, being stronger, will carry out the long-term protective function, but the maternal is not eliminated. I consider that the reference to Freudian theory is illuminating in early treatments and that this clinical field offers abundant possibilities for deploying the tension between the role of the maternal and the primacy of the paternal.
