The first transformation of sensory excitations sets up the skin as the first interface between psyche and soma. In the clinical illustration presented, the skin becomes the site of the unelaborated repetition of early traumatic experiences, particularly in intergenerational symptomatic repetition, as well as in the treatment. The clinical treatment of borderline states opens up the question of early splittings in the impeded construction of identity.
