— After my first essay on Caravaggio and the gift, I continued my research on the basis of new information. This texts aims to shed light on both the work and the man with reference to his experience and his history. Caravaggio’s sublimating drive answers to a phantasy, a paternal desire, both cultural and artistic, towards an emblematic figure of the times, Michelangelo. Michelangelo thus created Caravaggio, but killed Michelangelo.
