In Edgar Morin’s footsteps: Toward an ecology of complex action

To follow in the footsteps of Edgar Morin and to walk alongside him represents for us, as teacher-researchers, an intellectual adventure rich in multidisciplinary contributions on which to build and to develop our work. We entered through the door of the ecology of action and found there the theory of complexity that we describe as a paradigm of transversality and connection. The ecology of action is presented here as an alternative to the model of rational and instrumental action. In Christophe Schmitt’s work, it is reflected in the theorization of entrepreneurial action, whose action is finalized and is constructed along the way within an ecosystem, and in Philippe Lorino’s work as an action that unfolds in an ecosystem with the objective of reaching a goal, but whose success is not certain; it is of the order of randomness. We refer to these two models to develop our research problems and orient our results. The ecology of complex action and more globally the paradigm of complexity, besides being a reference model for our work, also embodies for us an interpretive framework that allows us to make sense of the multiple events we encounter in the course of our lives.
