The COVID-19 epidemic turned the daily routine of maternity wards upside down, putting many activities on hold. Perinatal care professionals, including midwives, became an even more important source of support for expectant mothers. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 period on support in maternity wards through the experience of midwives, to highlight the gains and difficulties experienced by professionals. We did a qualitative study involving nine semi-structured interviews with midwives working in a type 3 maternity ward, examining the period from March 16, 2020 (start of first lockdown) to December 18, 2022. The results show that, despite the stress caused by social isolation, this period created a calmer environment in the maternity ward, allowing mothers to refocus on their newborn. There was also great solidarity among professionals, particularly during the 2020 lockdown. The COVID-19 pandemic was generally disruptive. One of the main focuses was solidarity among staff members to promote a healthy environment. The ban on visits to the maternity ward helped create a calmer environment, however it also accentuated some individualistic movements.
