Choosing without giving up. The decisions of couples undergoing in vitro fertilization regarding the use of their embryos
Type de matériel :

This ethnographic study of a Belgian fertility clinic aims to understand how IVF patients’ embryo-related decisions affect the way they build expectations and perceive their treatment trajectory. Drawing on patients’ narratives, this article analyzes four situations of choice in order to grasp the complex relationship between patients’ decision-making capacity and their will to persevere regardless of treatment failures. These choices, which always involve a certain amount of ambivalence, will serve as a lens to address matters of reproductive autonomy and the therapeutic relationship.
