In this article, the author proposes a sociological analysis of the reception of Lost in Math. Seven interviews with physicists and students are examined. They show a passionate, sometimes violent, reception of the work. Whether the interviewees agreed or disagreed with the conclusions of the book, they did it in the name of a certain conception of physics that they were fond of, and explained the origins of their preference. Lost in Math was often perceived as an aggression, and some of the people interviewed took an aggressive stance. Such a reception is explained by highlighting the scientific, personal, and professional tensions faced by the physicists and the students interviewed.
