Taking into account the realities that surround them, the theory and practice of short-term psychanalytic psychotherapy respond to specific requirements. Based on the analysis of case studies from our institution, this paper aims to enumerate these requirements. What are the indications for this type of therapy? What kind of framework should be established in order for it to retain the original features required for a psychoanalytic therapy, in spite of its brevity? In what way can it be thought of as a transitional moment? These are the points upon which we reflect in this paper, illustrated by the presentation of a clinical case.
