The epidemiological study Psychotraumatic Exposure in Adult Psychiatry (EPPA-I) made it possible to detect a history of traumatic exposure in 72 percent of patients in an adult outpatient psychiatric unit. The EPPA-II study investigated the link between these previous exposures and their current repercussions in this same population. In order to obtain a distribution of the care profiles of patients with a history of traumatic exposure, the amount of psychiatric care (Volume-de-Soin-Psychiatrique, VSP) tool was developed. A statistical analysis was carried out. EPPA-II showed that VSP gradually increases in accordance with the number and type of traumatic exposures. The VSP appears to be higher in primary victims with a history of multiple traumatic exposures that likely caused a bodily injury. Although this tool includes some biases, this study has highlighted the repercussions of previous psychic traumas in patients in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units. The powerful role of psychic traumas in the genesis and evolution of chronic psychiatric disorders merits further investigation. This study paves the way for broader studies in this field, and advocates systematic psychotraumatic screening in adult psychiatry, but also in child psychiatry.
