The ideal of individualization in the support of young people with autism is often accompanied by a move away from “normalization.” But what does this entail, in concrete terms? Can we free ourselves from “the norm” in support practices? The article draws on a concrete example of a “social skills training group” for young people with autism to shed light on the ambivalences between individualization and normalization in the context of disability.
