This article highlights the socio-historical factors that have contributed to the dissemination of the theory of collectively-governed common-pool resources from the University context, associated with the Bloomington School, to the world of the Internet. At the crossroads between a historical sociology of the sciences and a social history of ideas, we show that this dissemination can be understood through the existence of “elective affinities” and “multi-positioned disseminators” acting as translators between these two social worlds.
