Thanks to scientific progress, babies can now be conceived and kept alive in different ways. Reproduction and sexuality can be separated. These sophisticated medical technologies pose a question not only to doctors, but to our society as a whole. These new ways of being born disturb our frameworks of reference and force psychoanalysts to find new tools and ways of thinking about not just birth but also the family. Given that babies “at all costs” are now the primary goal of medicine, what about their possibilities of becoming a subject?
