Dreams are experienced differently in different cultures. In situations of exile and urbanisation, cultural practices are transformed, but dreams can become a means of responding to both personal concerns and difficulties shared with those who live in the same place. The anthropologist Barbara Glowczewski offers here an overview of the cosmology and collective practice of dreaming among Australian Aborigines who associate their nighttime experiences with places and revelations that can guide or stimulate creativity. Other examples come from the collective sharing of dreams in the Andes and the Oniroscope action research workshops at the Insomnia Centre of a hospital in Marseille, initiated by anthropologist Arianna Cecconi and artist Tuia Cherici.
