Hatred at work, educational and therapeutic support of young people considered as “unplaceable”

In the field of child protection, when one works with young people who areconsidered to be “unplaceable”, one expects to be faced with manifestations of aggressiveness, destructiveness and hatred. One cannot, however, just decide to condemn or silence these impulses of hatred. They are an opportunity for educational and therapeutic work aimed at giving meaning to the symptom and at stemming deadly repetition. The violent acting out of Jean, Stéphane and Olympe invite us to question our practices with these children in great distress. This requires sufficient institutional holding so that it is possible to tolerate, for a while, being on the receiving end of impulses that are seeking the right address.
