The object relation in the context of lockdown. For a metapsychology of linking and encounter

The author begins by recalling Freud’s abandonment of the face-to-face position in favour of that of the standard treatment (couch/armchair), while attempting to interpret this fundamental modification of the psychoanalytic setting with regard to polysensoriality and intersubjectivity. He then decomposes the concept of object-representation into three distinct levels: representation of the place of the object, links to the object and of the object itself. These reflections may help to offer models for interviews at a distance (telephone or video-conference) from the perspective of a metapsychology of the encounter.
