The Notion of Caregiver in the Framework of a Care Institution for Young People

Attachment theory offers a pertinent theoretical framework for directing the professional practices of those involved in child protection. More particularly, in the case of care in an institution for young people it enables the role of each professional to be seen as a caregiver thus offering a new more secure attachment experience. For that, the social workers must be able to identify the modalities of high quality caregiving, as defined by Ainsworth, as well as what is at stake in their own attachment system. They will thus be able to adapt their posture and personalize the care given to each young person.
