This paper presents the procedure and results of a test measuring the encyclopedic knowledge base of students in a French elementary school. The psychometric test, known as the Questionnaire de mémoire encyclopédique scolaire de l’élémentaire (Elementary School Encyclopedic Memory Questionnaire) (QMES-E), was administered to 409 students in the fifth grade. The analyses carried out showed a version with 56 vocabulary items where encyclopedic memory has a bi-factorial structure : French and the Sciences versus History and Geography. The QMES-E scores show medium to strong correlations with French national tests.
