The adoption procedure was established at the start of the twentieth century in the Swiss Civil Code, in connection with the construction of an ambitious child protection policy. This text was based on the notion that legalizing the form of so-called simple adoption was in the child's best interest. Sources show that the solution of adoption was used by the local authorities to address the issue of illegitimate children whom they were unable to protect despite the new Code. The study of its implementation in the twentieth century reveals that this procedure contributed to directing a significant portion of illegitimate children toward the solution of adoption.
