Ears hung from the desire of the Other?

The cochlear implant, an object created by hearing people for the Deaf to reconstruct hearing, is first and foremost an object of society before being, if possible, an object of a Deaf subject. Is the cochlear implant currently an object of the Other’s desire for the Deaf subject, and even more so since the advent of device implantation in young children? Based on this question and considering the work of Piera Aulagnier, we are presenting the case of a young girl who was born deaf, received a cochlear implant at the age of five, and another as a young adult. We will see how this patient experiences having a cochlear implant and how it can reignite the narcissistic contract inevitably agreed between the subject, the parental Other and the social Other.
