This text is a transcript of a key extract from an interview with René Kaës conducted by Jean-Pierre Pinel at the symposium of the French Federation of Psychologists and Psychology “Aux sources de la violence: de l’enfance à l’adolescence”, held in Paris in October 2009. At the invitation of Jean-Pierre Pinel, René Kaës developed some aspects of a “theory of violence and negativity” and, at the same time, of “violence in the service of life”. Drawing on the contributions of numerous authors (Anzieu, Aulagnier, Bergeret, Zaltzman, Gibello, Puget, etc.), René Kaës presented the main lines of force of a process for symbolizing violence, which is not only a representation of origins, but also a representation of the violence of origins.
