The trompe-l’oeil of the feminine masquerade indicates that behind the phallus that the woman seems to be there is nothing. It implies a specific relationship with the Other. Indeed, this construction is dependent on the manifestation of the Other’s desire, which legitimizes her and gives her substance. When this legitimization fails and the mask falls down, there is nothing behind it. A complaint emerges which tries to keep at a distance the nothing that the feminine aims to shape.
