Starting from an in-depth study of couples where at least one spouse is regularly absent from the family home for professional reasons, we propose to study the interdependence between family lifestyles and this mobility. In order to do so we will use the concept of “family career”. This refers to the interaction between events in married and family life and the professional career of each couple. It makes it possible to understand the adjustments and the negotiations within the couple in their involvement in the family and the professional sphere. This research is a pertinent approach to an analysis of the new forms of employment, of their articulation to the various spheres of social life and gender relations.
