RésuméFace à une médicalisation de l’existence de plus en plus patente, l’auteur prend le parti d’un démontage des mécanismes impliqués dans ce phénomène. Passant au crible les conditions économiques et sociales de sa survenue, il examine en particulier les redéfinitions qui s’effectuent sur les différents acteurs concernés. Rompant avec la théorie du complot pharmaceutique, il s’oblige à une réflexion approfondie des conditions qui ont rendu possible cette dérive médicale du soin psychique. Des exemples très actuels, comme l’hyperactivité, viennent illustrer son propos. Quant à ses propositions, elles passent avant tout par une responsabilisation accrue du patient, jusqu’à en faire un partenaire des décideurs politiques.

With the increasingly flagrant medicalisation of our lives, the author wagers on dissecting the mechanisms involved in this phenomenon. Sifting through the economic and social conditions that saw its emergence, he especially examines the pressures exerted on the various players concerned. Breaking away from the theory of the pharmaceutical plot, he undertakes a thoroughgoing appraisal of the conditions that made this medical deviation in psychic care possible. What he has to say is illustrated with highly contemporary examples, as with hyperactivity. When it comes down to recommendations, what he suggests is above all a greater assignment of responsibility to patients, to the extent of making them partners to the political decision-makers.
