L’image d’un but marqué lors du premier match de la coupe du Monde 2014 est apparemment anodine. Pourtant, elle porte une part des bouleversements géographiques qui traversent, et font, le Monde contemporain. Ancré dans ces processus, le concept d'« habiter » offre une possibilité d’en prendre acte et d’en rendre compte. Mais l’hypothèse du texte est que l'« habiter », au-delà des multiples modalités de ses manifestations, s’inscrit dans des temporalités bien plus longues. Ses portées anthropologiques, à la fois existentielle et politique, traverseraient ainsi les époques pour faire de l’écriture, géo- graphique en l’occurrence, et avec toutes ses spécificités, le concept large et fort de cette science géographique.

The picture of a goal scored during the first match of the 2014 World Cup might appear trivial. However, it conveys some of the geographical upheavals traversing and making the contemporary World. The concept of “dwelling” is firmly rooted in these processes. It gives the possibility to acknowledge this and take it into account. The article’s hypothesis, however, is that although “dwelling” is expressed in many different forms, it is part and parcel of much longer temporalities. Its anthropological scope, both existential and political, would therefore reach across the different eras to generate writing, geo-graphical as it happens, and with all its specificities, the strong wide-ranging concept of this geographical science.
