The gender drive

In 1905, Freud identified a series of distinct drives that emerge successively throughout the first stages of an infant’s and child’s life. These drives, each with its own character, all leave their mark on the development of the body and mind. Among these drives, the first to manifest itself is the gender drive, which is often neglected in translations. However, might it not be possible for this gender drive to resurface in our contemporary reality? At a time when questions relating to gender identity and self-expression are being hotly debated, it seems appropriate to re-examine the influence of this originary drive and its potential role in society’s current dynamics.
